The Industrial Cities and Technology Zones Authority (MODON) has taken significant steps; to transform its cities into smart cities. It has signed a memorandum of understanding to transform its industrial cities into smart industrial cities that keep pace with development and progress, enabling factories to automate their operations and leverage advanced technologies to streamline management, monitoring, and quality control, as well as track their products remotely. Engineer Khalid Al-Salem, Director General of "Madin," said that planning and design for the project have already begun in the Second Industrial City in Riyadh, with a focus on security and safety services, where fiber-optic networks will be built, followed by the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTVCCTV) cameras to monitor traffic and security and electronically control streetlights within the city, noting that this step will be followed by the implementation of smart applications related to utilities, health, the environment, and engineering support, with the aim of raising the quality of services and sustainability, rationalizing energy and water consumption, and reducing operating costs.
Al-Salem revealed that the project will soon be put out to bid, after "Madin" has completed the designs and prepared the specifications, and selected qualified contractors for implementation. He explained that the project will be carried out using a phased, segmented implementation approach to ensure cost efficiency, allow sufficient time for inspection and testing, and enable the application of lessons learned during implementation in other cities.
