Care must be taken to monitor the installation of floor tiles as work progresses; if any issues or errors are noted during installation, they must be addressed immediately—it is strongly advised not to delay this under any circumstances. Once all floor tiling is complete, installation of the skirting tiles can begin; these are typically provided ready-made in the same design and color as the floor tiles, They can also be cut from the tiles themselves, provided they are beveled at the top. Skirting tiles for marble can be installed in various designs and at a height determined by the owner or the project’s interior designer. Some prefer to use wooden skirting boards depending on the building’s design and character; however, wooden skirting boards are not installed during this stage but rather at a much later stage of the project.
Skirting skirting helps prevent moisture and water from reaching the wall, thereby playing a major role in preventing paint from peeling, since water or moisture exposure directly causes paint to peel. Additionally, skirting serves as an aesthetic enhancement, particularly since it can be installed at various heights, in multiple designs, and in different colors depending on the building’s design and character, as directed by the interior designer.
Once the installation of the skirting tiles for all floors in the building, work then begins on grouting the tiles. It is recommended to choose a grout color that matches the tile color, and you can bring a grout color chart to the site to select grout colors that complement the tiles for each space. Grouting is not recommended for marble floors, as the small gaps between the marble slabs where they meet are sealed using grout, which is highly durable, making the marble appear as a single, seamless piece when the floors are cleaned and polished, as will be discussed later. Grout comes in a limited range of colors, but it can be tinted to match the marble’s color perfectly.
At the same time, the tiler takes the final, precise measurements of the staircase to ensure the materials for the stairs are properly secured, whether the stair tiles are made of marble, porcelain, or other materials. Note that marble is one of the most commonly used materials for stairs, and the stair color must be chosen to harmonize perfectly with the flooring in the ground-floor and upper-floor hallways where the staircase begins and ends, It must be emphasized to the tiler that the height of a single step (the «riser») must not exceed 16 cm, and the width of the tread must be 33 cm. If the staircase is circular, the necessary templates for the staircase must be created with precision, These templates are then sent to the marble factory so that the marble for the staircase can be cut according to them.
Upon delivery of the materials for the staircase—whether marble or other materials—the tiler begins installing the staircase along with its skirting skirting stairs, which can also be designed in various styles if marble is used; care must be taken to install the marble using white cement.
If you wish to install parquet flooring on the stairs, this is possible, provided that you coordinate with the parquet contractor to determine the requirements for the stairs before installing the parquet. In this case, it is recommended to use a lower-cost type of marble for the stairs, as the marble will be covered by the parquet, The purpose of using marble is to ensure the staircase floor is perfectly level, which greatly helps prevent noise from beneath the parquet and ensures the parquet is installed to the highest standard.
