3 GCC, Asian and European consortiums to build a dry port in Egypt's Sixth of October City

Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait revealed that his ministry has finalized the qualification of three consortia of local and international companies to participate in the 6th of October City Port project, The Egyptian minister stated that the consortia include one led by Concor (India), which also includes PSA (Malaysia) and Hassan Allam; a consortium led by the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport in partnership with DP World (UAE); and a consortium led by El Sewedy Electric, which also includes Schenck Egypt (Germany) and 3A International. These three consortia will compete to win the contract to implement the project, which will be built on an area of 100 feddans in 6th of October City to serve as a dry port for the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila, functioning as a customs clearance depot for containers.

Maait stated that this dry port is part of the Ministry of Transport’s efforts to develop land, sea, and rail transport systems that serve both people and goods, given that the transport network is one of the main tools for achieving economic growth, Therefore, the Ministry of Transportation’s Land and Dry Ports Authority has launched a project to design, finance, construct, equip, operate, and manage a dry port near the industrial zone in 6th of October City to facilitate the transport of containerized cargo. This is intended to alleviate congestion atat the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila, which will create many job opportunities at the dry port and the logistics center planned to serve it.

He noted that the contract term for this project is 30 years, with the tender documents and specifications to be issued to qualified investor consortia next month; the contract is expected to be signed in the fourth quarter of this year.
