Jeddah Governor Saleh al-Turki stressed that the slum removal project proved the ability and merit of government agencies to work in full harmony and coordination to achieve the public interest as evidenced by most of the agencies that participated in the project receiving awards for excellence in the branches of Makkah Award.

He added. "The desired development of Jeddah is not the replacement of dilapidated informal settlements with a veneer of deaf modern buildings, but a development based on a Hejazi identity that emphasizes a genuine national belonging that includes history, culture, arts and architecture so that Jeddah becomes a port where the waves of local and regional cultures converge and is a partner in the vast ocean of civilization."
He pointed out that this development is not a replacement of dilapidated informal settlements with a veneer of modern buildings. He pointed out that this development preserves what remains of Jeddah's true history and heritage and the urban development in the Al Balad area, which was praised by the world and placed on the UNESCO list of World Human Heritage Sites, as a civilizational, cultural and artistic contribution of global value.
The Jeddah Governor thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, who took this historic decision accompanied by mechanisms and procedures that eliminated obstacles, protected the rights of rights holders, compensated those who deserved compensation, provided temporary alternatives and social support to those who suffered damage, and provided facilities for those who left their homes."
