London and Washington top the list of the 10 most expensive cities in the world in terms of residential rent prices

London topped the list of the world’s most expensive cities in terms of residential rent prices (one-bedroom studio apartments) this August, while Cairo was the cheapest among the capitals included in the study.

According to a report released by Novosti Agency based on open data, tenants in London must pay up to $2,800 per month to rent a one-bedroom apartment in the city center, and about $2,100 in the suburbs.

The U.S. capital, Washington, D.C., came in second place, where rent for a similar apartment in the city center reaches $2,500 per month, while rent in the suburbs is about $2,000. In third place was Dublin, the capital of Ireland, where the rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center is estimated at $2,200 per month, and $1,900 in the surrounding areas.

In addition to London, Washington, and Dublin, the list of most expensive cities included Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Reykjavík in Iceland, where monthly rent in Amsterdam is about $2,000, and $1,800 in Reykjavík.

In contrast, Moscow ranked 33rd among the capitals included in the study, with an average monthly rent of $682, according to an analysis by the Russian company "Tsian."

Cairo, meanwhile, had the lowest cost of renting a one-bedroom apartment, with an average rent of $209 per month in the city center and $136 in the suburbs. Next was New Delhi, India, where the rent for an apartment in the city center is $268 per month, and $151 in the surrounding areas.

The list of the ten least expensive cities also included Brasília in Brazil, with an average monthly rent of $297; Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at $310; Dushanbe in Tajikistan, at $325; Baku, Azerbaijan, at $363; Minsk, Belarus, at $374; Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, at $416; and Buenos Aires, Argentina, at $426.
