The General Authority for Statistics announced today the results of the 2023 Household Energy Statistics Bulletin for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The results of the bulletin showed that the Riyadh region accounted for the highest share of electricity consumption in the residential sector at 28.1 TP3T, followed by the Makkah region at 25.5 TP3T, while electricity consumption in the Eastern Region reached 16.71%, noting that the Al-Baha region had the lowest electricity consumption at 0.9% among the administrative regions.
The Household Energy Statistics Bulletin also showed that the average weekly operating hours for electric water heaters reached 62.1 hours per week during 2023, while the average weekly operating hours for air conditioning were 51.5 hours per week, and the average weekly operating hours for heating were 17.9 hours per week, As for electrical appliances used solely for cooking, the average weekly operating hours were 6.8 hours per week.
It reported that the percentage of households very interested in energy conservation reached 92.1% in 2023, while the percentage of households applying energy conservation guidelines when using electrical appliances in the home reached 83.6%, while the percentage of households willing to spend some money to replace old appliances with modern, more energy-efficient ones reached 55.2%, The results also indicate that 42.3% of households across the Kingdom are interested in using solar energy in their homes.
The bulletin’s results showed that the percentage of households using various forms of energy for cooking in the residential sector reached 98.4% in 2023, The results also showed that the percentage of households using gas (“cooking gas”) was 89.1% of the total energy sources used for cooking, while the percentage of households using electricity for cooking was 9.3%, As for households using other forms of energy for cooking, the percentage was 0.1 TP3T.
It should be noted that the Household Energy Statistics Bulletin relies on two data sources: data from the Household Energy Survey and data from administrative records of the Ministry of Energy. The bulletin’s results also present data on the use of various forms of energy in households by housing type and tenure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
