Iraq to launch 1.5 million housing units by 2026

<The head of the Investment and Development Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, Hasnain Khafaji, announced the start of the implementation of one and a half million housing units in Iraq during 2025 and 2026, in a move aimed at addressing the worsening housing crisis. He emphasized that these projects represent a broad launch for the housing sector, in parallel with major investment plans covering various vital sectors.

Huge housing projects underway

Al-Khafaji pointed out that most of the companies that received these projects have a strong reputation and potential, stressing that the committee follows up on the work of these companies, in addition to continuous coordination with the concerned bodies, such as the National Investment Authority and the Supreme Committee for Investment and Reconstruction.

He added. <“In the coming years, we will witness a qualitative leap in the housing sector, supported by close cooperation between the government, parliament and the investment committee,” he added. This comes as the government announced the construction of six new cities as part of a program aimed at providing 500,000 housing units over the next five years.

Housing Fund: Initiatives to support citizens

<The Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works announced plans to enhance the role of the Housing Fund in covering the largest number of beneficiaries. Ministry spokesman Nabil al-Saffar explained that the budget allocated to the fund ranges from 600 to 750 billion dinars annually, with the possibility of increasing it based on the amounts recovered from loans.
