Riyadh's youth housing proposal wins GCC housing award

Riyadh's youth housing proposal won the first edition of the GCC Housing Award in Doha, Qatar, which aims to encourage activities and research works that contribute to the development of the housing sector in the GCC countries.

The project was selected to help young people who are about to get married to adopt a new style in the design of housing units, reduce waste in expenses and spaces through the so-called “nucleus dwelling”, in addition to changing the perception of Saudi society towards multi-storey buildings by using duplex units inside multi-storey buildings.

Dr. Fafaz said. <Dr. Saeed Al Owais, Dean of the School of Design, which submitted the winning project, said: “We are very proud of the first three places achieved by the Kingdom in this session at the GCC level, and we are even more proud that the first place was achieved by the University's College of Designs.”

Dr. Saeed Al Owais, Dean of the College of Designs, which presented the winning project, said. <It is worth mentioning that the affordable housing project for youth in Riyadh was presented by the College of Designs at the University of Dammam under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Halo Al-Wakeel and Master's student M. This proposal came under the title “Toward a sustainable solution based on the constants of our faith and Islamic identity that meets our needs and preserves the land of the ancestors to reach the grandchildren and limit the waste of space within the Saudi home.”

The proposal was submitted by the College of Design at the University of Dammam under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Halo Al-Wakeel and Master's student M. Badriya.
