The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia accounted for the highest percentage of the 10 largest projects in the transportation, railway, construction, energy and water sectors in the Middle East, at a total cost of 66.51 billion riyals.
A recent statistic showed that the Kingdom acquired the highest percentage of the 10 largest projects in the transportation, railway, construction, energy and water sectors at the level of the Middle East region. The 10 largest transportation and railway projects in the Middle East were valued at $54.96 billion, according to MEED, followed by the UAE with a 5.4 percent share of these projects worth $2.96 billion
The Kingdom accounted for 70.3 percent of projects in these sectors across the Middle East, with a value of $38.66 billion.
Saudi projects in the transportation and railway sector included the Riyadh Metro «Line 1 and 2» worth 9450 million riyals, the Haramain Railway Network «Phase II» costing 8216 million riyals, the Riyadh Metro «Lines 4, 5 and 6» worth 7820 million riyals Riyadh Metro «Line 3» worth 7820 million riyals, Riyadh Metro «Line 3» worth 5942 million riyals, King Abdulaziz International Airport «Phase 1 - New Station Package 1» worth 4034 million riyals, and the Kingdom accounted for 34 percent (equivalent to 12.75 billion dollars) of the 10 largest construction projects in the Middle East worth 37.45 billion dollars.
The Kingdom's projects in this sector included the Kadi Towers project in Makkah worth 3,500 million riyals, prisoner rehabilitation centers worth 3,400 million riyals, the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz project in Riyadh «medical complex for security forces» at a cost of 3,350 million riyals, in addition to the expansion of the Grand Mosque in Makkah worth 2,500 million riyals.
In the field of energy, the value of the 10 largest projects in the Middle East reached 28.69 billion dollars, of which the Kingdom's share was 52.6 percent, equivalent to 15.1 billion dollars, including the Rabigh Power Plant «Phase 6» project Rabigh Power Plant "Phase 6" at a cost of 3400 million riyals, Shuqaiq Steam Power Plant at 3300 million riyals, Jeddah Thermal Power Generation Project at 3120 million riyals, Independent Village Electricity Generation Project at 2850 million riyals, and Ras Al Khair Desalination and Power Production Project at 2420 million riyals.
