The competent authorities have completed the design of the new Abha Airport project, and are currently preparing to put it in a public competition for implementation, which will take place within a period not exceeding two years after awarding it to the winning company, God willing.
This was explained by the Vice President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Dr. Faisal bin Hamad Al Saqeer
His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Asir Region, had recently received in his office at the Emirate the Vice President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation Dr. Faisal bin Hamad Al Saqeer and the accompanying work team. During the meeting, His Highness was briefed on the development project of the new Abha airport, and the most prominent elements of the future airport design project, which was recently completed.
During the visit, the Vice President provided an explanation of the new airport project, reviewing all its elements, the expected time period for completion and details of the general plan for the future airport.
Al Saqeer said that the General Authority for Civil Aviation, with the great support of His Highness Prince Fahd bin Abdullah Al Saud, President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation, is continuing to implement construction and modernization programs for the Kingdom's airports in order to develop them in line with the growth of the global air transport market.
It should be noted that the main elements of the new Abha Airport project consist of a new passenger terminal with a capacity of 5 million passengers per year, 20 mobile electric bridges to serve the boarding of passengers to aircraft, an apron and parallel runways to accommodate 26 aircraft simultaneously, parking buildings for 2800 cars, a mosque with a capacity of 1000 worshipers, buildings for meteorology and environmental protection, airport management, air navigation and airport maintenance, in addition to buildings for security agencies working at the airport, and administrative and technical support buildings.
