The Ministry of Commerce’s campaign to protect club trademarks seizes more than 71,000 counterfeit products in two weeks

Field inspections conducted by the Ministry of Commerce and Investment as part of its campaign to protect the trademarks of Saudi sports clubs resulted in the seizure and confiscation of 71,157 counterfeit products from markets and retail outlets,The Ministry’s inspectors visited 3,755 locations across the Kingdom, issued 558 commercial violation notices, and summoned the owners of the offending stores for investigation and to complete the necessary legal proceedings against them, in accordance with the Trademark Law and the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law, and to protect intellectual property rights.

The Ministry of Commerce and Investment and the General Authority for Sports had carried out a joint campaign lasting two weeks aimed at preventing the possession, display, and sale of counterfeit sports club merchandise and at preserving and protecting the clubs" rights in accordance with the Trademark Law, in support of the clubs, given the fundamental importance of their logos as a source of investment for the clubs, and to protect the national economy from practices that violate regulations.

The ”Ministry of Commerce” and the ”General Sports Authority" also called on sports clubs to take the initiative to register their trademarks to safeguard their rights, and both agencies affirmed their determination to continue efforts to safeguard the trademarks of Saudi sports clubs and enforce the law. The Ministry of Commerce and Investment emphasized that it will continue to take legal action against anyone proven to be involved in the storage, distribution, or sale of counterfeit products bearing the trademarks of sports clubs. The Ministry also reiterated its instruction to stores and retail outlets not to possess or display any counterfeit products, and pledged to take action against violators in cooperation with other relevant authorities.

The Ministry of Commerce and Investment emphasized that it will continue to take regulatory action against anyone proven to be involved in the storage, distribution, or sale of counterfeit products bearing the trademarks of sports clubs, The Ministry also reiterated its call to stores and retail outlets not to possess or display any counterfeit products.

The Ministry called on all consumers to report their complaints to the Ministry’s Reporting Center at 1900 or via the ”Balaag Tijari” app.
