Domestic steel production rises 450k tons in September

Saudi steel production witnessed a remarkable rise of 450 thousand tons with an annual increase of 7.5% during September of this year, according to “MEED” economic reports that steel production in the Middle East increased by 11.2% during September to reach 2.25 million tons compared to 2.02 million tons in August.
The MEED report added that the Middle East and Asia were the only two regions of the world that recorded growth in steel production in September, while European production fell by 8.9%, while global production rose by 6.1% to 132.5 million tons, driven by China, the world's largest steel producer.

The Kingdom has allocated a total of 247.5 billion riyals for the development of the housing sector and 61.875 billion riyals for the expansion of transportation projects, in addition to 7.5 billion riyals for road projects under construction. Furthermore, the General Authority of Civil Aviation has allocated 2,497.5 million riyals for the construction of 34 airports across the Kingdom over the next five years, and a budget of 101.25 billion riyals has been approved for railway projects that are under construction or in the bidding stage.
The Kingdom increased its iron and steel production by 3.6% in August 2013 compared to the same month last year to reach 464,000 metric tons.
Statistics released by the World Iron and Steel Association revealed that the Kingdom's total production of iron and steel during the first eight months of this year reached 3.68 million metric tons compared to 3.43 million metric tons during the same period of 2012, an increase of 7.1%.With this volume of production, the Kingdom ranked 25th in the world among the 64 iron and steel producing countries that are members of the Union, whose production constitutes 98% of the total global production, and second among the Arab countries after Egypt, whose production during the first eight months of this year reached 4.33 million metric tons.
