Master Database
The Authority revealed that this survey will take 9 months and is expected to cover more than 1.8 million land uses in the city. It will contribute to providing the master database with updated estimates for various residential, government, and economic land uses in the city, in addition to its role in assessing the changes these land uses have undergone in recent years since the Authority’s last land-use survey. The process of “urban development” is characterized by dynamism and constant change, which requires flexible mechanisms that respond to these changes and ensure a high degree of follow-up and monitoring of all new developments
The Authority emphasized that the land-use survey will provide accurate and comprehensive data on various land uses to serve urban planning purposes, updating periodic land-use data and adopting it as the basis for the city’s planning databases, as well as strengthening and enriching the spatial information of the base digital map, and providing characteristics of existing buildings in terms of (building type, number of stories, construction materials), identifying developed urban areas and determining their numbers, patterns, types, and areas, and identifying urban development trends in the city, explaining that the new land-use survey in the city will rely on field visits and the recording of information on tablets directly from the site; remote sensing technology will also be used to analyze recent satellite imagery.

Modern Monitoring Software
Modern software will be used to monitor and track surveyors and maps to ensure the accuracy and quality of the data, in accordance with the international land-use classifications adopted by the United Nations. The Authority stated that, to unify efforts between the Riyadh Development Authority and the Riyadh Municipality, the latest versions of the digital base maps for the city of Riyadh prepared by the Municipality were utilized, There is also cooperation with the National Water Company to record meter readings throughout the city, as the land-use survey is one of the first initiatives the Authority undertook to provide data for use in its various urban studies, The year 1406 AH marked the Authority’s first comprehensive survey of the city; subsequent surveys were conducted periodically in 1411 AH, 1417 AH, and 1425 AH. The survey was also updated using remote sensing technology based on satellite imagery in the years 1430 AH and 1432 AH. .
Land-use surveys are among the most important planning elements for any agency engaged in strategic urban planning, The High Commission for the Development of Riyadh previously conducted the first land-use survey in the city of Riyadh in 1406 AH, and this survey was updated twice in 1411 AH and 1417 AH, and again in 1425 AH. The survey was also updated using remote sensing technology based on satellite imagery in 1430 AH and 1432 AH.
