Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques lays the foundation stone for Qiddiya project and shapes the Kingdom's entertainment, sports and cultural landscape

On Saturday, April 28, 2018, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz laid the foundation stone for the Qiddiya project, which aims to build a range of recreational sports activities and cultural shows within new advanced facilities and facilities that meet the needs of everyone, from amusement parks to game parks, racing tracks and safaris, in addition to attracting international investments and providing 57,000 job opportunities for Saudis.

Laying the foundation stone

Five main pillars of the Qiddiya project

Qiddiya CEO Michael Reininger said that the project is based on five main pillars: parks and attractions, movement and mobility, nature and environment, sports and health, culture and arts and education. “We will move forward with the development of the project supported by a series of retail, residential and hospitality facilities, which will represent a major integrated entertainment destination.”

The project is one of the many qualitative achievements that the Kingdom will achieve in the coming years, and is one of three mega projects of the Public Investment Fund, led by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Public Investment Fund, which will effectively enhance competitiveness in attracting global investments, benefiting the Kingdom's economy.

Promoting the growth of non-oil revenues

For his part, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority Ahmed bin Aqeel Al-Khatib appreciated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques laying the foundation stone for the Qiddiya entertainment project, noting the role that the project will play in creating tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs and will contribute, upon completion of its construction, to enhance the growth of non-oil revenues for the country, stressing at the same time the importance of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which is led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and the Crown Prince, in drawing a clear picture of the country's future towards prosperity and growth.

For his part Al Khatib noted that the Authority will accompany the establishment of this promising new area with many international events and distinctive activities, which are in line with the importance of the place and the role of the new city in providing the Kingdom with increasing numbers of tourists, and encouraging the Kingdom's progress as a region of importance in this vital sector internationally.
