The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has disclosed the total cost of its project portfolio, amounting to 13.105 billion riyals, for 21 water projects included in the five-year capital portfolio of the Environment, Water, and Agriculture System, following the approval by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs, to allocate 105 billion riyals to water projects representing the first tranche of the five-year capital portfolio of the Environment, Water, and Agriculture, which is earmarked for 1,335 water projects across all regions of the Kingdom.
It clarified that the list of 21 projects included in the portfolio aims to extend desalinated water services to new areas, as well as to complete certain existing projects currently under construction. It also aims to meet demand and address the crisis of increasing demand driven by population growth in some regions, contribute to achieving water security and sustainability, enhance the reliability of the production, transmission, and storage systems, implement best operational practices to optimize the use of assets, and boost desalinated water production capacity—especially since these projects cover seven regions: Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah, Asir, the Eastern Province, Al-Baha, and the Western Coast.
The Desalination Company stated that these projects aim to elevate the level of services provided, improve their quality, and maximize the use of resources and assets, and serve as a driving force for further development achievements and an incentive to raise service standards and ensure business continuity; all to support the Kingdom’s conventional and unconventional water sources. The Authority affirmed that its employees will spare no effort and will live up to the expectations of their wise leadership, and will harness all their capabilities and potential to develop projects in the water sector.
