Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the contracting arm of the Indian consortium Larsen & Toubro, has won a $161.4 million contract for the Riyadh Metro double track work. The project will include the construction of a 62.8-kilometer double track for lines 1 and 2 of the Riyadh Metro, which will consist of tunnels, bridges, elevated stations, low stations and warehouses, with construction scheduled to be completed within 40 months as stipulated in the contract.
<Larsen & Toubro announced the deal on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday, saying it “beat out stiff international competition and is in sync with L&T's strategy to expand its railroad business in the Middle East,” but declined to comment further on the deal.Larsen & Toubro, which operates in more than 30 countries around the world and has revenues of more than $15 billion, is also part of the Riyadh City Consortium, which is working to deliver the longest line of the six-line Riyadh Metro. In Oman. <In Oman, Larsen & Toubro is leading a consortium along with Spain's FCC and Oman's Khalid Bin Ahmed Construction Company, which was one of 11 companies bidding for the first phase of Oman's $15 billion rail network. The first phase will connect the Buraimi area on the border of the United Arab Emirates to the port of Sohar with a railway line with an estimated distance of 207 kilometers, and is expected to start implementation of this project before the end of this year.
