Dammam—Amlak
Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, recently received in his office at the governorate Abdulrahman Al-Rashid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce, and Saleh Al-Sayed, Chairman of the Chamber’s Construction Committee, and members of the Scientific Committee of the Construction Industry Forum, a documentation file on the forum’s activities, as well as the forum’s recommendations and a working paper outlining the Construction Committee’s analysis of the causes of delays in the implementation of development projects in the region.
The Governor of the Eastern Province expressed his gratitude to the Chamber’s Chairman and the members of the Forum’s Scientific Committee for their efforts, which reflect their commitment to construction issues through their initiatives and their dedication to developing the role of contractors in order to achieve growth and sustainability for this industry.
For his part, Abdulrahman Al-Rashid, Chairman of the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce, praised Prince Saud bin Nayef’s interest in and support for the business sector.
Al-Rashed said: “We welcome and are pleased with the guidance provided by the Governor of the Eastern Province to the Chamber, which serves as an incubator for the business sector and champions its ambitions and aspirations. The construction sector is one of the most important drivers of the national economy, and at the Chamber, we work hand in hand with sector representatives on the Chamber’s Construction Committee to champion the issues and aspirations of contractors, We also work together to find solutions to the challenges it faces, and perhaps organizing forums, seminars, and workshops—along with the recommendations that emerge from them—is one of the most important mechanisms through which we seek to create the best environment for the business sector, so that it can fulfill the national roles entrusted to it in serving and supporting national development decisions and plans.”
For his part, Saleh Al-Sayed, Chairman of the Contracting Committee at the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce, said that the committee submitted to the region’s governor the recommendations from the «Construction Industry 2024» forum, along with a working paper outlining the committee’s analysis of the causes of delays in implementing development projects in the region,
Al-Sayed added that the proposed recommendations addressed a number of problems and solutions for stalled government projects, most notably the “FIDIC” standard contract, in addition to proposals to establish a reference framework for contractors, given that the Kingdom has a large number of contractors capable of executing projects. The “Construction Industry 2024” forum recommended establishing a national contractors’ authority comprising relevant ministries and business leaders with the aim of supporting, representing, fostering, and developing the construction industry, especially given that there are more than 250,000 businesses operating in the construction sector.
