The General Roads Authority (GRA), in cooperation with NHC (NHC), announced the implementation of a quality initiative aimed at converting building demolition waste into construction materials and reusing them in road asphalt works within Al Fursan Destination northeast of Riyadh, in an activation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two parties. Roads Authority said in a statement. The Roads Authority explained that the initiative succeeded in transforming an environmental challenge in Al Forsan destination into a value-added opportunity by utilizing the demolition waste products of buildings located within the scope of the project and recycling them to be used as base materials in the asphalt of the suburban roads, noting that the initiative contributed to collecting approximately 350,000 m3 of these materials, supporting national trends towards building sustainable infrastructure, promoting circular economy practices and increasing resource utilization efficiency.
This initiative comes within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties, in a move that embodies institutional integration to promote sustainable practices and improve the efficiency of roads in residential projects. This initiative comes within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that KDIPA signed with NHC on the sidelines of Cityscape Global to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences in the road sector, which included recycling construction waste and old asphalt for use in asphalt layers, and exchanging innovative ideas and initiatives that contribute to the implementation and maintenance of roads with sustainable materials.
It is worth mentioning that KDIPA's initiative comes within the framework of the MoU signed with NHC on the sidelines of Cityscape Global. It is noteworthy that the General Authority for Roads is keen to hold effective partnerships with local and international entities to raise the efficiency and performance of the road sector, improve the level of safety and infrastructure, based on its supervisory role over the sector, and seek to achieve the objectives of the road sector program that focuses on safety, quality, and traffic density, to reach the sixth place in the world in the road quality index and reduce deaths to less than 5 cases per 100,000 people by 2030.
The memorandum includes the recycling of construction waste and old asphalt for use in asphalt layers, and the exchange of innovative ideas and initiatives that contribute to the implementation and maintenance of roads with sustainable materials.
