Royal Commission for Riyadh announces award of Riyadh Metro's Red Track Extension Project

The project adds 8.4 kilometers and five new stations to connect King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate project and enhance Riyadh's public transportation.

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced the award of the project to design, implement and complete the new extension of the red track within the network of Riyadh Train by adding 8.4 kilometers to the current track, extending from King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate development project, including five new stations; to complete the public transport system in the capital and enhance the link between vital areas, residential communities, and educational, cultural and health centers.

This project comes within a continuous path of development witnessed by the city of Riyadh during the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God bless him - and with the continuous support and guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh - may God protect him; as an extension of the public transport project in Riyadh, which was inaugurated by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in November 2024, making the train the backbone of the public transport network in the capital.<His Excellency Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Sultan, Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers and CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, stressed that the Red Track extension project comes to enhance the public transport network in the city and complement the efforts of the Commission in developing a sustainable urban transport system that connects the vital centers of Riyadh, its residential communities and its cultural and educational attractions, noting that the project keeps pace with the increasing demand from residents and visitors to the capital to use public transport since the start of the project in late 2024, with the number of passengers exceeding 173 million passengers since its opening, which reflects the community's confidence in the efficiency of public transport. The project is expected to contribute to reducing the number of cars by 150,000 vehicles per day, which enhances the provision of various options and flexible alternatives for access and mobility to and from Diriyah.
