Public Transport Authority invites leading international companies to cooperate to build and operate railway transportation services

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) and its collaborators have invited leading international companies in the field of building and operating railway transportation services and national investment entities in the private sector to express interest in entering into long-term strategic alliances to compete to provide passenger and cargo transportation services via railway lines in the Kingdom.

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) has invited leading international companies in the field of building and operating railway transportation services and national investment entities in the private sector to express interest in entering into long-term strategic alliances. <The Public Transport Authority noted that the lines concerned are the Riyadh-Dammam and North Train lines, in addition to the implementation and operation of future projects such as the land bridge project that will connect the Kingdom's ports on both the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea. On the same subject, the Minister of Transport and Chairman of the Public Transport Authority, Sulaiman Al-Hamdan, stressed that this directive comes in implementation of one of the most important initiatives of the National Transformation Plan in the railway sector to achieve the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to develop this sector, as this initiative is based on increasing the participation of the private sector in projects through the model of participation between the public and private sectors, noting that coordination is currently underway with the National Center for Privatization on developing the optimal model of participation with the private sector in this regard.

The Minister of Transport pointed out that there are key objectives that support such an approach, including achieving excellence in operations and operations through partnership with international operators to raise the level of performance to comply with operational and safety standards, improve reliability, reduce costs and increase revenues, in addition to establishing a culture of quality by employing advanced capabilities, such as increasing expertise in marketing and improving customer service to encourage reliance on railways in passenger transportation and increase their share in the freight transportation market, to reduce dependence on government support and perform work in a private sector, commercial manner.

His Excellency added that coordination is currently underway with the National Center for Privatization to develop the optimal model for participation with the private sector in this regard. The Minister of Transportation added that the aspirations are great and hopes are high, and this trend is not limited to the sectors supervised by the Public Transport Authority.
