Shura member calls for strict control over the quality of materials used in road and bridge construction

Shura Council member Saad Al-Otaibi stressed the need for strict control of the quality of materials used in the construction of roads and bridges, to suit the desert conditions of the Kingdom, and ensure safety and security for those who use them, and the importance of prioritizing between transportation projects and other infrastructure services to avoid any delay or waste of resources.<Council member Turki Al-Enezi called on the Ministry of Transport, in partnership with the private sector, to study the possibility of localizing emerging technologies used in road paving and maintenance mechanisms and qualifying human cadres to operate them.

Council member Saad Al-Omari also called on the Ministry to coordinate with the relevant authorities to accelerate the entry of foreign investment in the field of providing transportation services and logistical support, noting that this will reduce dependence on government support and will provide a strong and positive competitive environment and attract international expertise and advanced technologies.

As part of the interventions on the annual report, Council member Mr. Feihan bin Libdeh pointed out that creating special roads for trucks reduces the burden on main roads and reduces their maintenance costs, and suggested finding other means of transportation such as trains in coordination with the relevant authorities, stressing the need for strict control over contractors and their compliance with the specifications and standards set for maintenance.<For her part, Council member Dr. Haifa Al-Shammari called for conducting many research and field studies and directing research and development projects towards localizing modern technologies and innovation, and demanded that the ministry not view technology as a technical process only at the current stage, but rather as a broader holistic vision and an institutional, organizational and administrative process.Council member Aisha Arishi suggested putting signs indicating the levels of flood water on roads that pass through valleys and do not have bridges, in order to raise the culture of recognizing risks before they occur, and to reduce the accidents of vehicle deviation during floods, while Mohammed Al-Ali called on the ministry to develop a comprehensive plan within specific years to implement safety requirements in all roads in the Kingdom to ensure - God willing - the safety of its users, and increase the role of the ministry branches in supervising the projects of their regions with the necessary capabilities to do so.
