Tips for Improving Home Lighting

Lighting fixtures do not necessarily have to be (chandeliers, lamps, and sconces) be the same size.
Lighting should not overwhelm the room or, conversely, “get lost” in the space; therefore, the room’s length and width must be taken into account. For example: In a 10 × 10-foot room, the diameter of lighting fixtures should be about 20 inches.
Use multiple light sources in each architectural space.
In addition to functional lighting, there is decorative lighting that enhances the decor.

How to Choose Pendant Lights for Rooms and Reception Areas

Interior designer Reham Fran outlined a number of fundamentals we rely on when selecting lamps and lighting fixtures, and explained that there are factors to consider, such as the height of the fixtures and the amount of lighting in each room, along with defining its function.

Bedroom

Lamps and lighting fixtures chosen for the bedroom should not emit strong light; they should be pendant or ceiling-mounted, and it is essential to use recessed lighting that emits a soft glow. The color temperature in this space should not exceed 2500 or 2700 Kelvin. It is worth noting that the brighter the light, the more it tends toward white, while dimmer light tends to have a faint yellowish tint; the latter generally harmonizes well with interior decor, particularly with the neutral colors (white, gray, taupe, and beige) commonly used in bedrooms.

Living Room

The living room is generally spacious, which allows for a pair of ceiling chandeliers, with attention paid to their design. In addition, there is soft indirect lighting and wall sconces that enhance and beautify the interior decor, as well as add visual interest to the walls and soften their starkness. Unlike the bedroom, the three types of lighting mentioned above can be combined in the reception hall without the light from any single fixture becoming excessive.
